ALIE ABDIS TURAY Avatar

Sierra Leone is making a great contribution in the global conversation about women’s empowerment. A recent moment of pride for the nation came when fifteen women spanning a range of ages and backgrounds traveled to South Africa to participate in the renowned Africa Women Dialogue Conference.
This event, which brought together women from across the continent, provided a platform for discussion, networking and strategic planning on issues crucial to the advancement of women. Through their participation, the Sierra Leonean women demonstrated both the progress the country has made and the critical role it will play in shaping Africa’s future of gender equality and empowerment.
The African Women Dialogue Conference is one of the foremost gatherings dedicated to advancing the rights and representation of women across Africa.
Held annually, the event serves as a dynamic space for African women to discuss the obstacles they face, share solutions, and collaborate on projects that can promote social, political, and economic empowerment.
Sierra Leone’s women have long been at the forefront of societal change, despite facing major challenges in the post-conflict era. The participation of these women in this year’s conference marks a milestone in Sierra Leone’s journey towards gender parity.
Their involvement is reflective of the country’s growing commitment to women’s empowerment, a commitment that has been championed by various governmental and non-governmental organizations. The Sierra Leonean delegation at the conference included both established leaders and rising stars, veterans with years of experience advocating for women’s rights and young leaders eager to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table.
Together, they represented the diverse voices of Sierra Leone women, from grassroots activists to influential professionals, all united in their mission to build more inclusive society.
