Honorable Sidi Mohamed Tunis representing Pujehun District Southern Province has started the mudslinging into the race for the flagbearer position of the ruling   Sierra Leone Peoples Party ahead of the party’s convention later this year.

The veteran Member of Parliament said the position of flag bearer is not for ‘novice’ but for someone that is widely known across the country and battle tasted. This statement of his has sparked wide outrage across the political spectrum of the ruling party and has all what it takes to shatter dreams of some contestants for the all-powerful position.

‘The SLPP will not elect one that is only known in Bo and Kenema but one that is known all over the country’ he stated.

This statement of his has sparked wide outrage amongst party members across the country with some of his opponents describing it as derogatory whilst another set of supporters saying it is aptly put.

The MP’s remarks may have been drawn from the fact that over the past months some ugly heads have made their intentions known for the most powerful position in the SLPP and a lot more are set to declare whilst in actual fact those wanna –be flagbearers should be busy cleaning their image

During a radio interview on Monday 22nd April 2024 when he was  asked as to whether he could confirm that there is a battle in the House of Parliament for the position of Speaker, the ECOWAS Parliament Speaker said there is no such a thing as infighting as the party’s decision is that the Deputy Speaker, Hon Sengepoh Thomas has been selected to be in that position and that he is satisfied with such a decision.

The MP further clarified that the resignation of Dr. Abass Bundu as Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament had nothing to do with Hon. Mohamed Bangura, an opposition MP who claimed that his name was surreptitiously removed from the ECOWAS Parliament list and replaced by the Opposition leader Hon Abdul Kargbo and Honorable Mabinty Fornah.
