Hawa  Yokie, founder and CEO of Kamara Yokie Innovation Centre on 18th June 2024 narrated her experience during the Innovation Summit hosted by the Ministry of Communications Technology and Innovation.  This was during the weekly press briefing at the Foreign Affairs Conference Hall organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education at Tower Hill in Freetown.
The young innovator said she met with the Innovation Minister last year  and explained to her about the founding of a Texcity whilst  the minister promised of holding a summit in January  but could not materialize until  June last week.
She continued that the minister’s plan was to create a city called Texcity which could make it easy to capture innovators and young players in this platform.
Hawa said they aim to bring thousands of young players into the technology world highlighting the importance of the summit.
Hawa Yokie said the summit enables young innovators to meet with international technology players and that it also saw the launching of starlink pointing out that with the president launching of the fifty million dollars spot, he also contributed thirty thousand dollars.
Speaking on the Robotic competition she said it assembled 8000 kids and with six of them representing Sierra Leone. One was drawn from each province and those kids performed extremely well and later won medals.
She ended by stating that there were a  lot of gains in that competition  which among whom were  the signing of an MOU by the minister and the interaction  among   various players both in and outside Sierra Leone.
