The life of former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Pastor Grant Abdul Koroma is under serious threat after information revealed that he was linked with the November 26, 2023 failed attempted Coup.
Pastor Great Abdul Koroma was Assistant Superintendent of Police attached to the CID and served as Admin Officer heading the Land Grabbing Department in the Sierra Leone Police.
Earlier information revealed that Pastor Grant Abdul Koroma was one of those who masterminded the failed Coup to overthrow the democratically elected government of President Maada Bio.
Formerly of 45 Sumaila Town in the West end of the capital Freetown,Pastor Grant Abdul Koroma was then arrested but later released and is now on the run as he along with other suspects in the said Coup have been the subjects of persistent threats to face the consequences of their actions.
This press gathered that Pastor Grant Abdul Koroma was initially wrongly arrested and detained for engaging in subversive activities and colluding with Coup plotters on November 26th 2023 with the Coup plotters. to overthrow the Maada Bio government .
This press gathered from police sources also that Pastor Grant provided his house as a safe haven for Sergeant Alima Bangura,his tenant in Sumaila Town where the Coup plotters usually meet to plan for the Coup and that on that fateful day renegade soldiers who had attempted to overthrow the government were found in his house harboured by Sergeant Alima Bangura.
This prompted the police to raid the house and discovered some information from neighbors that the house was indeed a base for the plan coup used by his tenant Sergeant Alima Bangura.who was in a relationship with Amadu Koita.
It was further reported that Pastor Grant Abdul Koroma was eventually arrested on 4th December, 2023 and tortured with him sustaining several injuries including on his left eye
When the police discovered after their investigations Pastor Great Abdul Koroma was innocent,he was later released but that didn’t end the threat to his life and family.He later sought refuge in his village where he was later chased prompting him to go in hiding in the bush.
It could be recalled that Pastor Grant Abdul Koroma was taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters on Pademba Road in Freetown where he was detained for several days whilst being investigated. He was then released after investigations proved that he was innocent and he was only serving as Landlord to Sergeant Alima Bangura who harboured the ringleader of the Coup, Amadu Koita,her boyfriend who has since been tried and sentenced.
This press further gathered that some time in March 2024, heavily armed police officers and members of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces raided the residence of Pastor Grant beating mercilessly everyone they could lay hands upon including Pastor Grant and taken to an undisclosed location.
A neighbor who spoke to this press on condition of anonymity stated that the combined forces of the police and RSLAF continued their visit to the residence and threatened to arrest anyone linked to the act.
The source said the forces threatened to take the life of Pastor Grant Abdul Koroma and nothing will come out of that whenever they catch him.He later took refuge to his village after his release but had since then fled to unknown whereabouts. His house was also comprehensively looted and frequented by security forces.
As a press time, the whereabouts of Pastor Grant Abdul Koroma, his wife and four children remained unknown.
Some members of his neighborhood told this press that apart from the vandelism of his house his wife was also raped in broad daylight by security forces with his children severely beaten.
Therefore the Sierra Leone Police has vowed to do everything within their reach and appealed to
members of the public to provide information that will lead to his re-arrest and since then he has been in hiding whilst the whereabouts of his children also remain unknown
As it stands, security forces have made it part of their routine to raid his house whenever there are political tensions in the country between the two dominant political parties and Pastor Grant Abdul Koroma is a strong member of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party further making his situation more serious.
The government of Sierra Leone through the Sierra Leone Police has placed so much effort to arrest all those responsible of the said Coup who in the early hours of November , 2023 brought the city to its knees leading to the death of several Soldiers.
Since then the alleged perpetrators have either been declared wanted ,tried and sentenced to life imprisonment or killed as result of their actions.
