“Not too Young to serve” Kumba Amara wants Asserts

Kumba Favor, President for the Women in Governance, on Tuesday 10th September 2024 called on the government to represent the underrepresented groups. She made this statement at the Ministry of Information Weekly Press Briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Hall, Tower Hill in Freetown.

She said though the Prepositional Representation otherwise known as the PR is good but does not create room for smaller parties.

She said it is good that government include women in the governance system and by extension, the disable whose voices also matter in society. She said these underrepresented groups are key and they should be included in governance process.

She cited a slogan passed in the Nigerian Parliament which reads ‘’Not too young to run’’ noting that females are not young to champion or run the governance affairs.

She further reflected on the notion that ‘’ nothing about us without us’’ which signifies their importance in the running of governance.

Madam Favor further said that as civil society she believes there is   current   political   representation in parliament did not meet the 30% earlier promised for women looking at the threshold set for women representation which she said was not met, the reason. she called on APPA   to play a key role towards the inclusion of women in governance.
