Fourah Bay College, University of
Sierra Leone, is proud to announce
that Lecturer Mohamed Sellu from the
Department of Mathematics and
Statistics has successfully defended
his doctoral thesis and has been
awarded a Doctor of Philosophy
(PhD) in Statistics.
The defense took place on October
27, 2025, at the University Committee
Room on Mount Aureol. Dr. Sellu’s
research, entitled “Deterministic and
Stochastic Analysis of
Susceptible–Exposed–Infected–
Recovered–Death–Pathogen (SEIRD-P) Models for Covid-19 Dynamics,” provides
advanced mathematical insights into the behavior of the COVID-19 virus.
His dissertation was met with high praise from the external examiner for its rigor and
relevance. Dr. Sellu further distinguished himself with an eloquent and compelling
defense, achieving a final grade of 78%. His expertise will be a significant asset to the
department, addressing vital needs in epidemiological modeling and data analysis for
future public health challenges.
