Four major resignations that have caused a stir in the SLPP
The latest resignation is that of Her Excellency, Isatu Aminata Bundu, Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya, daughter of the former Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament Hon. Dr. Abass Dundu.
Ahead of the party’s convention in a year and a half time, division within the rank and file of the party is already rearing its ugly head in the party with the potential to militate against its chances of holding on to power after the end of President Bio’s term in 2028.
Madam Bundu was appointed in 2022 after the demise of her predecessor amidst wild criticisms from the general public that both Madam Bundu and her father were lucky in a country of few opportunities to benefit from such positions.
The High Commissioner in that part of the world is also accredited to Angola, Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Somalia, and South Sudan which presupposes that the holder of such a position is no neat feat in international diplomacy
Her resignation marks the end of the Bundu s in the Bio government, and it came as a big surprise just when the government of Sierra Leone is battling to clean its image abroad.
Dr Abass Bundu also resigned from his position as Speaker of Parliament with claims that he was forced to do so by the head of the Executive retire peacefully. He has not spoken since his ignominious resignation from the third highest position of the country.
Not also ago, when the country particularly the City was plunged into perpetual darkness, we also saw the resignation of Kanja Sesay, one of the Country’s most respected personalities held in high esteem from within and outside his party.
He was until his resignation, the Minister of Energy, such a key ministry which the government could not priorities on igs Big Five Programs, he had to battle with a city where the pilfering of electricity is commonplace and where most institutions owe the Ministry billions of Leones in unpaid electricity bills
No reason for her resignation has been advanced so far which she described as “personal” but speculations are rife that it was as a result of the disgraceful removal of her Father from the position of Speaker months ago after falling down the pecking order of the Bio regime.
Just months ago, the Press Secretary to Press Bio, Solomon Jamuru Esq arguably one of the finest gentlemen of our time also did resign from his position on the pretext that we wanted to continue his private life.
Another person also that could not continue working for this government is the Ombudsman, Lawyer Jenkins Johnstons Jnr after the end of his first term as Ombudsman.
No matter how one looks at it, these resignations have caused a stir within the SLPP making its top party official feeling unsafe
