The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has inspired the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) after leading young children on a conducted tour to the Lungi International Airport facilities.
This was when children dubbed “next generation of aviation professionals’’ were briefed on the operations of the airport by a cross- section of staff accompanied by their parents and guardians .
The children were exposed to check –ins, firefighting, aviation security, CCTV mentoring amongst others and were opportune to ask questions and visited various departments of the facility.
“Our visit to the airport gave children a hands on experience of aviation from check-in to firefighting’’, Musayeroh Barrie stated DG SLCAA
Whilst addressing the children, the DG said the bold move is also to encourage children to choose aviation as a career path as they would never regret it.
The DG did not mince her words when she told the parents that “let us keep nurturing the curiosity, the future of aviation begins with them’’
The visit emphasized youth engagement and capacity building in aviation at the ICAO Next Generation of Aviation Professionals summit in Durban South Africa.
During such summit, the DG stole the show whilst sharing Sierra Leone’s transformative journey in aviation development.
As the World’s youngest Director General an– African and a woman, the DG delivered a compelling message, “Sierra Leone is not just talking about the future of aviation ‘‘we are actively building it’’
The DG has also publicly remarked on opportunities for young people in the aviation sector in Sierra Leone pointing to the arrival of the national carrier, digital transformation in the industry, and the regrowth of Lungi as an international hub.
At the end of the visit, the children left fulfilled about their visit and many would now consider choosing aviation as their career path.
