Awol winning Athlete and former House Mate Star in court for fraud

Thirty-four -year-old George Wyndham, a Paralympian athlete and one time Season Two house mate participant made his first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of the Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown on two count charges ranging from Obtaining money by false pretences contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916
According to the particulars of offence in July 2024 at State House,in the Western Area in Freetown with intent to defraud obtained from Patricia Sama the total sum of thirteen thousand(13,000) united states dollars equivalent to three hundred and twelve thousand Leones(312,000) by falsely pretending to the said complainant that he will make George Lucinda Kallon, Ibrahim Sundi, sama Jalikatu Bah, William Zidan Sonjor and others travel to France knowing same to be false
Count two states that on the same date and place with intent to defraud obtained from Saffa Kanneh the sum of thirteen thousand(13,000) United States dollars and a physical cash of fifty eight thousand Leones all to the total sum of three hundred and seventy thousand Leones(370,000) by falsely pretending to the said Saffa Kanneh that he will facilitate his family and relatives traveling to France knowing same to be false
When the charges were read and explained to the accused person No plea taken
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ibrahim S Mansaray sought for a short adjournment date for him to get proper conference with his witness
The defense counsel J.M Kofie Esq pleaded with the Magistrate on special circumstances that the accused cannot work by himself and that the offences were a mere allegation noting that they’re willing and ready to defend them.
He applied for bail for and on behalf of the accused that he has reliable sureties who are willing and ready to go into recognisance on his behalf and that he will not interfere with the prosecution witness or witnesses nor will he jump bail
The Lawyer made his application pursuant to section 79 3 of the Criminal procedure Act No.32 of 1965 section 7 1c of the bail regulations that refer to accused special circumstances and
needs when consideration is made on behalf of the accused
Meanwhile Magistrate Kekura granted bail to the accused person in the sum of two hundred thousand Leones each with two sureties each in like sum sureties to be resident in the Western Area in Freetown bail to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar whilst the matter was adjourned to 28th October 2024
